Rushed Wedding!

Tips from a guest blogger

Hey there!

I’m Alex, and I’m engaged to Sarah, the love of my life. I’m excited to share my wedding planning journey with other brides and grooms out there! Our engagement story is a bit of a rollercoaster, but we made it work.

Sarah and I got engaged in early June 2022, and we planned to have our wedding in September 2023. However, I’m in the Navy and found out that I was to be deployed at the end of May 2023. We were devastated, but we thought we had enough time to plan our wedding before I had to leave.

But then, just a few weeks ago, we found out that my deployment could be extended. We had to make a tough decision: either move the wedding to the fall and hope for the best, or have it this winter. After weighing all the options, we decided to go for it and have our wedding this past December.

It was definitely a bit overwhelming planning a wedding in just three months, but we made it happen!

Here are my tips to handle a rushed wedding:

Accept it for what it is and have a positive attitude. 🙂 Whether your wedding date has been moved up or you're simply choosing to have a shorter engagement, you must accept that this may limit your planning options. However, it's important to focus on the positive aspects of your situation. For instance, a shorter engagement can result in a smaller, more intimate wedding, and you'll be marrying the love of your life sooner rather than later.

Set your budget with your timeline in mind. If your engagement is shorter than you originally planned, your budget may need to be adjusted. Be realistic about what you can afford and prioritize what is most important to you. For instance, if you're getting married in the winter, you may need to allocate more money towards a venue with an indoor reception area.

Start a new inspiration board. If you had already started planning your wedding before your date was moved up, it's important to start fresh. Your old inspiration board was likely created with your original budget and timeline in mind, and may no longer be applicable. Look for inspiration that fits your current timeline and budget.

Find a venue and dress as soon as possible. The venue and dress are two of the most important aspects of your wedding, and they can take the most time to prepare. Look for venues that are flexible and have availability on your new date, and consider non-traditional options if necessary. Additionally, look for dress shops that carry dresses in stock, as ordering a dress may take several months.

Do your research for deals and specials in your area. There may be vendors in your area that offer deals or specials for weddings on shorter timelines. Look for these opportunities to save money and take advantage of them if they fit with your vision for your wedding.

Remember, the most important thing is that you're marrying the person you love. Don't stress too much about the little details, and focus on enjoying the process!
