Our wedding on Montrose Beach in Chicago, IL came with its share of surprises. From beach permit sticklers to the CPD to amazingly supportive beach-goers, our day was full of unexpected guests and I’m not just referring to the infamous bird sanctuary piping plovers.

If you plan to get married in the sand in Chicago, be ready with your receipts. While Miguel and ABBA were serenading our celebration at The Dock and our photographer was snapping pictures of family and friends munching tacos, a chicago police officer rolled up to condemn our party…from a megaphone…inside his car… He claimed we were disturbing the birds…to which my friend screamed, “WHERE WERE YOU LAST WEEK WHEN I GOT MUGGED IN LINCOLN PARK?! YOU SEEM AWFULLY WORRIED ABOUT THE PLOVERS!” He quickly rolled up his window and stared us down. We held up our paperwork and with that, he rolled his eyes and rolled off in his cruiser.

Definitely get married on the beach in Chicago. Definitely have your documents. Definitely bask in the cheers of strangers and the delightful songs of the piping plover.
